Talks to avert a strike by pilots, angered by British Airways' employment plans for a newly-formed transatlantic subsidiary, have broken down.
Union officers had met the airline at Acas, after an earlier vote in favour of industrial action by pilots.
The airline said if strike dates were issued, it would seek a court injunction to prevent pilots taking industrial action.
Bad news for the airline, but once again a group of staff end up butting heads with BA management. If the rumours are true, the cabin crew union aren't far from balloting their staff either. The pilot's group simply aren't willing to accept an "assurance" from the management and point to similar projects such as American Eagle with American Airlines and Jestar with Qantas to show that the pilots will ultimately lose out in the end. BA management could solve the issue by agreeing to a common seniority list it seems, but they are unwilling to agree to this which is making pilots even more suspicious about what plans the BA management have for the new airline, Open Skies.
