All "Men at Work" road signs in a US city are to be repainted, after complaints they that discriminate against female construction staff.
Authorities in Atlanta, Georgia agreed to alter the signs following a campaign by the editor of a local women's magazine, who claimed they were sexist.
More than 50 "Men At Work" or "Men Working" warnings will be repainted to say "Workers Ahead" or just "Workers" at a cost of £11 ($22) per sign. The city will also ensure that all future signs it buys are gender neutral. The total cost of the alterations will exceed $1,000.
What a big fuss (and expense) over really nothing at all. I suppose we should change every reference to "man" in the Bible too because it's "subtle discrimination"? Give the ACLU a few months...
What a good way to waste taxpayer money; as if we needed another.
I'd rather see them actually working. I love the signs 'Highway Workers - Give them a Brake' - should be spelled 'Break'. It seems whenever you drive past a worksite there's 5-10 guys standing around and 1 or 2 actually doing something.
As to the article-what a colossal waste of money, just to soothe the ruffled feathers of a few. If the Woman's Magazine Editor volunteered to pay the expense to change all the signs, then I wouldn't have a problem with it.
Well at least there will be some "men at work" re-painting all the "Men at Work" signs.
Absurd! Perhaps the complainers should find something more constructive to focus on.
